Kitchen Island Project
Reclaimed wood top section was built from 300+ year old Southern Yellow Pine. The island project includes custom base with 2 cabinets and drawers with area for bar stools on one side.

Original wood planks are 300 year-old Southern Yellow Pine

5-12' Reclaimed wood planks that were used to build the top of the island.

Each board needed to be hand plained on all sides. You can see the original nail holes on the side of the wood.

Each plank was 2.5-3" thick and needed to be planed on all sides as well as the edges to insure a seamless fit before gluing with biscuits. No nails were used in the assemble.

After gluing sections, I added a 2" end cap using pieces of the same planks.

Adding a wood sealer and three coats of polyurethane to seal and water proof the top.

I created each of the island end caps with sanded plywood and poplar then finished with a coat of white lacquer.

The completed island included a section on one side for 2-4 bar stools. I also added electrical outlets on both ends.

The opposite side included double cabinets I had also built along with 2 drawers.
